Cult Leaders Face Jail for Child Deaths

Prosecutors have called for eight years in jail for two Kaedajuku cult leaders, in Miyazaki. The defendants allegedly denied medical treatment to a sick boy and a baby at the commune where their mummified bodies were found. Authorities said that the defendants "tried to protect their peculiar ideology that denies medical treatment. What they actually did was cruel." (Mainichi Shimbun, 12/18/01, Internet)
